Thanks to Smooth Auto Balancing (SAB), DT Swiss shocks are extremely supple. At the same time, SAB is extremely lightweight, simple and efficient. The system consists of a bypass in the air chamber. The bypass ensures a slightly higher pressure in the negative air chamber than in the positive air chamber when the shock is extended. This reduces the breakaway force at the beginning of the stroke, resulting in a smoother spring function for more comfort and traction.
The precise positioning of the bypass and the right dimensions of the piston ensure a slightly higher pressure in the negative air chamber than in the positive air chamber when the shock is extended. This in turn makes for an extremely supple shock.
The compression of the spring causes the piston to close the bypass. The negative air chamber no longer affects the behavior of the spring; only the positive air chamber is compressed from this point on.
In the final phase, only the air in the positive chamber is com-pressed. Once the shock starts to extend, the pressure in the negative chamber increases again to a slightly higher state than in the positive chamber. The cycle begins anew.
