For MTB, boost hubs have become the new industry standard. The greater bearing distance increases the lateral stiffness of the bike and reduces ball bearing wear.
Unfortunately, you cannot convert non-boost hubs to wider distances nor boost to narrower distances (non-boost). This is because the boost hubs are wider in the center.
